Eating more protein helps you feel fuller for longer, increasing the likelihood of weight loss, and mushrooms are just as filling as meat, scientists claim.
A study found that eating mushrooms for breakfast is more satisfying and can lead to weight loss.
This is because the food creates greater feelings of fullness and less hunger, even when compared to a breakfast full of meat.
Joanne Slavin, PhD, RD, professor at the University of Minnesota said: “Previous studies on mushrooms suggest that they can be more satiating than meat, but this effect had not been studied with protein-matched amounts until now.
"As with previous published research, this study indicates there may be both a nutritional and satiating benefit to either substituting mushrooms for meat in some meals or replacing some of the meat with mushrooms."
